Absent

I have been a little bit absent from the blog…

There are many reasons – most of them boring!

But one of them had a bit of beauty attached.

I visited the Eastern Cape town of Somerset East for the first time. Gill College is pictured above.

(Liz and Nadia who drove with me, shared accommodation with me and marked with me)

It was to mark Matric exam papers – won’t go into too much detail – but the town really charmed me. The picture above is the chapel / library where our group marked. The people were very friendly and in summer the town, nestled against the mountain, is dressed in shades of blue and purple. Jacaranda trees and agapanthus flowers mostly.

There are also beautiful buildings (schools and churches) and charming little houses. This is the Dutch Reformed church early one morning. The view from my room:

Sooo, I’m back in PE and – hopefully – also back on the blog 🙂

Some progress

On the request from Helena for some ‘doils’ for her study and living rooms. I hope they’re to her liking. I only have Instagram pics so far. Still have a lot to do.

Living the life creative

To quote Jane Brocket. Someone said to me the other day: I cannot imagine spending my time crocheting/knitting/making something. Well, I cannot imagine not creating something – all the time. I do feel that we’re all creative in our own way, not necessarily only while crafting or decorating or whatever you see as traditionally creative. Riaan is quite creative in finishing a video game too – or solving a problem at work. It’s just that people who say things like that are usually the ones who don’t even read: and are proud of it! Now I say: what do you do? How do you spend your time? Work, most of the time. I get it, my job takes up more hours of my day than anything else too. But what then? Do you just watch TV? Do you at least find joy in making food? (The person in question was met at a cooking class, so you would think so, but from what she said it sounded as if she didn’t really bother much with that either.) What gets to me is that someone can be so proud of … not doing anything, not making anything.

Okay, that’s my rant for the month. Here’s what I’ve been doing:

More to follow (as soon as I master the iPhoto-iCloud combo). I’ll leave you with an experiment – love the colours.

Bond in stills

I have a few movies that I watch over and over, and never grow tired of watching…over and over! I suspect that Gentlemen prefer blondes is my most watched movie. A close second would be All about Eve, and Sean Connery Bond movies. Tonight I watched Dr No for the first time in almost ten years, though. It was awesome. Here is a still rendition:

20110927-214554.jpg

20110927-214644.jpg
Da-da…da-da…

20110927-214749.jpg
The first baddies enter: three blind mice (not really blind, it turns out).

20110927-214946.jpg
A show of the newest tech early on. They have to show off, right?

20110927-215106.jpg
First girl, enter.

20110927-215143.jpg
And Bond.

20110927-215241.jpg
Smokin’ hot. But the girl has to wait.

20110927-215355.jpg
Moneypenny.

20110927-215434.jpg
M… and a mission.

20110927-215525.jpg
A quick mmm…kiss.

20110927-215722.jpg
And we’re at the obligatory exotic destination, preferably one with poisonous animals.

20110927-215831.jpg
The driver, however, is suspect.

20110927-215929.jpg
And what the deuce is that guy doing with those glasses? Really, why? Even considering fashion pressure, I wouldn’t.

20110927-220110.jpg
Turns out it’s Bond’s CIA chum.

20110927-220203.jpg
The first sinister shot of the main baddie’s lair.

20110927-220317.jpg
Some more tech…

20110927-220353.jpg

20110927-220423.jpg
The second girl certainly took her time – spoiler, she’s a bad one.

20110927-220922.jpg
But our hero is on his way none the less, for a quick…kiss.

20110927-221034.jpg
Wait, someone’s following.

20110927-221131.jpg
We need a car chase, after all.

20110927-221221.jpg

20110927-221302.jpg
Is he going to make it?!

20110927-221339.jpg
What, you’re alive?

20110927-221500.jpg
Yes, he’s here…okay, I’ll keep him busy.

20110927-221618.jpg
Shagged her, arrested her, now setting the scene and waiting for the bad guy.

20110927-221859.jpg
Playing solitaire while waiting. I love that.

20110927-221958.jpg
We’re on Dr No’s island now, and something isn’t right.

20110927-222107.jpg
Wait…

20110927-222153.jpg
“Under the mango…

20110927-222243.jpg
…treeeeeee….

20110927-222329.jpg
…me honey and meeee…”

20110927-222518.jpg

20110927-222558.jpg
THE Bond girl. She seems a bit dim…

20110927-222709.jpg
Are you here to steal my shells?

20110927-222806.jpg
No, trust me.

20110927-222851.jpg
I’ve come to tell you that hipsters are out. Hi-rise pants are in.

20110927-223011.jpg
The obligatory shower scene.

20110927-223057.jpg
Our hero in disguise.

20110927-223220.jpg
Dr No blows.

20110927-223257.jpg
Our hero and girl survives and is rescued by the Queen.

20110927-223546.jpg
He now has time for more than a kiss…

A girl crush and an additional boy or two

You all know I’m crushing on the wonderful Marcelle from Bloemfontein’s Demo Den – last night was the first of two bread baking demos. O. M. G. Riaan joined me for this one, and he’s impressed. He ate a whole big plate full of BREAD at 10 in the evening … and enjoyed it! For the first time in my life I ate rye bread and liked it – liked it very much indeed.

But now I have two more crushes to deal with: Amazon.co.uk Super Saver worked very hard for me during August and September. I’m not even going to try and feel guilty. The last two pick-me-ups are my two new crushes:

[Darn it, somehow WordPress messed up the last bit of this post and I’ve lost all the photos and text. Okay, it went something like: awesome, wonderful, love it, everything, like him more now than 10 years ago, what! ten years, not going to say that again…]

So I’ll just add that the next book was seen on a blog somewhere and I instantly knew I had to have it.
